Etsy listing photo size
- Recommended: 2700 × 2025 pixels (4:3), or 2000 × 2000 square.
- Etsy’s requirement: listing photos should be at least 2000 pixels so they stay sharp and zoom works; your first photo must be at least 635 pixels wide to avoid ranking lower in search.
- Thumbnail: Etsy automatically crops your first photo to about 570 × 456 (5:4) for search results and your shop page — centre your product with margins.
- File types: JPG, GIF, PNG, SVG or HEIC. Animated GIFs are not supported in listings, and transparent areas of PNGs render black — use JPG for photos.
- File size: keep photos around 1 MB or less where you can; very large files can fail to upload on slow connections.
Etsy shop banner sizes
- Big banner: 3360 × 840 recommended (minimum 1200 × 300).
- Mini banner: 1600 × 213 (minimum 1200 × 160).
- Carousel banner: 1200 × 300 per image, up to 4 images.

Does Etsy compress my photos?
Yes, Etsy recompresses uploads for display. That is why starting from a clean, full-size original matters — uploading an already-compressed copy (a screenshot or a messaging-app version) is the most common cause of blurry listings.
Should Etsy photos be JPG or PNG?
JPG for photographs. PNGs are larger, Etsy handles them more harshly, and any transparency renders black in listings. Keep PNG for graphics that genuinely need it outside listing photos.
How do I stop Etsy cropping my photo badly?
Shoot and export in 4:3 or square, keep the product centred with margin on all sides, and preview the 5:4 search crop — the resizer’s safe-zone overlay shows it before you download.
